I am Declaring Class Warfare. Who's with Me?

The GOP likes to take any argument I or my peers have as to why we as a nation have an ethical responsibility to the have-nots as our society, and call it class warfare. How dare I engage in class warfare, and pit the have-not's against the haves. Well, I have an answer for you: yes, I am engaging in class warfare. Because government was not built for the affluent. It was built so that the affluent don't trample the poor on their way to further affluence. So now that class warfare has officially been declared, whose side are you taking? The wealthy few, or the angry masses?

What kind of world do we live in when George Allen, in a naked bid to earn brownie points with the "bigot" section of his party, can declare his support of deporting 12 million people just because their American Dream is just beginning. This, despite the fact that in the state he is supposed to represent, the region where immigrant populations have settled has a 2% unemployment rate, and an exploding population that really loves new houses with kept lawns. So I think you've just declared war on a class of people. And I am here to fight back. From today's WaPo

"The sleeping Latino giant is finally awake," Contreras said. "This will be the largest demonstration by immigrants ever held in this country."

The movement has emerged as a loose coalition of immigrants rights groups, unions and religious and student organizations.

Organizers are eager to draw other immigrant groups, including Asians and Africans, into Monday's protest. But it is the involvement of so many previously apolitical elements of the Latino community that might prove a watershed in the political and cultural evolution of Hispanics, whose influence has lagged behind their growth into the nation's largest minority.

But it is not just immigrants you have declared war on. You have declared war on the middle and lower classes by squeezing them dry with tax cuts and refusing to raise the minimum wage.

You have declared war on Christians by making it a CRIME to provide humanitarian aide to illegal immigrants despite a mandate from the book of Matthew to care for the least among us and to bless the meek.

You declared a war on gay people a long time ago, but I guess you thought that strategically, because it only affects 10% of the population, nobody would notice. Well, guess what, they do notice that for all your talk of family values, they still are in trouble, and will continue to be in trouble as long as they can't pay their health bills. And they notice that you tricked them into forgetting about that because two consenting adults are in love.

You declared a War on Women, not just by threatening choice, but by hindering their ability to raise a family and work. You know that women are the ones most affected by failure to raise the minimum wage. You know that if women were in better financial situations, they are less likely to have abortions. You know that if contraception was covered by medical plans, it might not be an issue. But you declared war anyway.

You declared a war on the elderly, or how else am I supposed to interpret Medicare D? Or trying to privatize Social Security? Or preventing the growth of stem cell research to save them from the horrors of alzheimer's?

You declared a War on Poverty, meaning those who are impoverished, by cutting anti-poverty programs at Christmas in a "cost-cutting" measure after hurricane Katrina.

And because you can't talk Southern politics without admitting the reality of the situation that the South is poor, you have declared war on the South as well. You do not promote our leaders to leadership position despite the fact that they have been essential to your rise to power. You do not provide for us. You do not create economic opportunity for us, which is ten times more useful than the "aide" your down right condescending to hand out. You know what, I know we get more aide than richer states, but if you didn't leave so many Southerners unemployed without access to healthcare, maybe that would not be the case.

You've declared a war on hunters and fishermen, otherwise, why on Earth would you be so hell-bent on ruining their streams, cutting down their forests, and killing off the wildlife, and destroying the world they love?

Well, you got greedy, because the numbers of people joining my class war against you are steadily growing, and they're not turning back. Your foot soldiers are deserting, in part because you went ahead and declared war on them, too. Or do you think that you can make up for slandering soldiers who disagree with you and calling them unpatriotic and questioning the validity of their sacrifices with a bumper sticker on your car? And that hispanics will forgive you because you say NOSOTROS ESTAMOS TODOS AMERICANOS in bad Spanish or fly a Mexican flag in your ad while decrying them in the streets?

Trust me, as a Democrat, I can tell you from experience, taking your base for granted can bite you in the ass.

Or, in this case, change the tide of war as you've been fighting it for the past few years. The era of appeasement is over. The sleeping giant is awoken. And in the end, I have more to fight for than you do.

Game On.
